Getting the most out of your garden will require some degree of forward planning. As I am trying to increase the productivity of my veg garden, I am spending a lot more time planning what, where and when to grow.
I am using a simple excel format to layout a simple calendar with the months along the top and items to grow down the first column. I have split the rows between sowing and harvesting for each plant I intend to grow. My growing list and plans can be found under the growing list page.
I am also planning my crop rotation. Crop rotation was not a subject I had considered important for a small veg garden but, after reading around the subject, I found that is was just as import for me as it is for a more industrial setup in keeping disease at bay.
The final thing to plan will be how to preserve the product at the end of the growing season.
