  1. Beets in cells?! I am glad that is not necessary here. I would be concerned about disfigurement of the roots in such confinement. We do not grow them through summer here, but put them out in winter to develop for spring and perhaps early summer. The seed are sown directly into the garden. We can do more in autumn, to develop for winter. Why do you not plant yours after frost to develop into summer? I can see why you do not put them out in winter, but it seems to me that, since they can grow in summer, they could be delayed to grow through spring and into summer.
